About Our Founder
John David Marx. Same sand, bigger ideas.
The author behind our first books, in the sandbox where he builds, explores and writes.

The author
John taught himself to program at sixteen, on a Burroughs B-1900, from manuals and late nights. His first technology job was the night shift at Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. He studied technology and philosophy at TCU, and in 1989 built CGL, a fourth-generation language that generated complete C applications for Unix, and founded The Open Systems Group on it, which made the Inc. 500 in 1996.
After years at Red Hat and Cognizant helping large organisations adopt new ways of building software, he came full circle in 2024, back to invention, and founded Webspinner and the Webspinner Foundation. Inference Publishing is one of the Foundation’s projects, and his books are free to read, download and share.
I’ve spent 45 years watching technology separate the people who understand it from those who don’t. I’d like to spend the next chapter changing that.

The Making of a Mind
A Synapsody in the making. A Synapsody is an interactive multimedia work you explore like a living book: a sovereign AI mind renders it from the Hebbian Corpus, weaving text, voice, image, motion and music, and it reshapes itself as you read.
The sandbox is real
The machines in the sand are the ones his work runs on: a Mac Studio, two EdgeXpert computers, a router and a drive, in Portland, Oregon. The screen on the tree shows the Inference Desktop: Create your AI, and own it.
